Congratulations to Tung and Han on their engagement! Before the wedding comes the đám hỏi, the Vietnamese engagement ceremony where the groom's family formally visits the bride's family, gift trays are exchanged and the two families come together for the first time as one.

Tung and Han's ceremony was intimate, warm and beautifully styled, and we were so grateful to be invited into such an important family moment.

What Happens at a Vietnamese Engagement Ceremony

At a traditional đám hỏi, the groom's family arrives with red lacquered trays of gifts such as tea, fruit, sweets and jewelry. Elders from both sides make introductions, the bride is presented to the groom's family, and the couple offers tea and prayers at the family altar. It is a quieter, more personal celebration than the wedding day, and it is full of meaningful moments for photographers to capture.

Getting Ready

Han's hair and makeup were done by Kim Phantran of Kimquynh Make Up, a perfect fit for a soft, traditional look with her áo dài.

Holly Nguyen styled the space with a beautiful backdrop and altar setup that framed every part of the ceremony, from the tray exchange to the family portraits.
