An Intimate Backyard Wedding
There is something special about a backyard wedding. It feels personal from the very first moment, like being welcomed into the couple's home and their story. Michael and Uonie's celebration had that warmth all day, with family and friends gathered close, kids running across the grass, and nobody in a hurry.
The color palette was bold and classic, red and white throughout, from the bridesmaids' gowns and the groomsmen's ties to the roses in Uonie's bouquet.
Getting Ready
Uonie got ready surrounded by her bridesmaids and the women who love her most, all in matching satin robes. Her gown hung in the window, full of lace and soft light, while her hair and makeup came together and the room filled with laughter and a celebratory pop of the bubbly.
Some of our favorite frames came from the quiet moments in between: Uonie lifting her cathedral veil in the window light, a bridesmaid in red kneeling to help with her shoes, and her flower girls snuggling up beside her in their white dresses with red sashes. Even the ring bearers were dressed to impress in matching black suits and red ties.
The Ceremony
Under a bright, cloudy Florida sky, family and friends gathered outdoors for the ceremony. One of the sweetest moments came when Uonie was walked down the aisle and handed over to Michael with a warm handshake and a big smile, a moment full of family and love.
Michael could not stop smiling at his bride, and the whole crowd felt it.
Portraits on the Lawn
After the ceremony, we headed out onto the wide open lawn for portraits. With palms and old trees in the background, Michael and Uonie were relaxed and completely themselves, sharing hugs, laughs, and a few cheeky looks at each other.
The wedding party brought the energy, with bridesmaids in red and champagne gowns and groomsmen in black suits and red ties, striking poses and strutting across the grass like they owned the place.
The Reception Under the Tent
As the sun went down, the white tent came alive with warm string lights and candlelight. Guests gathered around long tables draped with greenery and red accents, and Michael and Uonie shared their first dance on a glowing white dance floor while everyone they love watched on.
The cake was a showstopper: tiers of red, white, and gold with fans, flowers, and a Chinese bride and groom on top, a perfect nod to their heritage. The night was full of good food, great conversation, and happy dancing.
Shooting With Intention
A quick note from behind the camera: Henry culled and edited this entire wedding in about six hours. Over the years, we have learned to shoot with intention instead of firing away and hoping for something usable. Composing each frame carefully and dialing in white balance for every scene keeps the editing fast and the final gallery consistent.
Cameras are just tools, but when you combine the right tools with experience, you get quick turnaround times and a final product we are really proud of.
