What Happens at a Lễ Đính Hôn
The engagement ceremony includes the presentation of gifts, introductions between family members, expressions of gratitude to ancestors and elders, the exchange of the engagement ring and a joyful feast shared by both families. Each gift tray carries meaning, from fruit and flowers to tea, wine, sweets and betel leaves, all symbols of prosperity and respect.
The Procession
The groom's family and groomsmen, dressed in pink áo dài, walked in procession down the neighborhood street, each carrying a red tray covered with silk. Hao's family and bridesmaids, also in blush pink, welcomed them at the door with smiles and bows. Du, in a bright red áo dài, led the way with his parents beside him.
The Ceremony
Inside, before a wall that read Lễ Đính Hôn with the couple's names and the date, the elders introduced each family, the gifts were presented and Du and Hao honored their ancestors at the family altar. Hao, radiant in her red áo dài, received her engagement jewelry, and both families shared blessings for the couple's future.
Portraits
After the ceremony we stepped outside for a few portraits, the couple under a traditional paper parasol and the full bridal party together in pink and red. The trays, the tea set and every carefully arranged detail made the day beautiful to document.
